Qualcomm has introduced an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is almost impossible to cheat
Sensors fingerprint scanners are already widely used in smartphones and computers. They are reliable, fast, easy to use and provide a relatively high level of security. However, all these sensors use the image to define the outline of the picture of papillary pattern, and this method is rather vulnerable, which is very clearly demonstrated in a number of feature films. However, a well-known company Qualcomm has developed and launched a new fingerprint scanner ID Sense, which is devoid of the above vulnerabilities. Sensor this scanner creates a three-dimensional picture of the fingerprint using ultrasonic waves and the scanner to cheat much harder than other similar devices.
Sensor radiated ultrasonic wave is reflected from the surface of the finger and are trapped by the receiver. Sensitivity and resolution of the receiver is sufficient to not only obtain a two-dimensional image of papillary pattern, its features are enough to determine the depth of the grooves, the height of the protrusions and to determine the position of the pores in the skin through which sweat is secreted. Naturally, such a detailed three-dimensional map of the fingerprint contains a huge number of unique identifying information and fool the sensor is a simple film with a deposited picture "stolen" two-dimensional imprint on principle will not work.
Through the use of the new ultrasound scanner is not hindered by obstacles of layers of metal, sapphire crystal or ordinary glass, plastic and some other materials. This means that phone manufacturers and other portable electronics can install these sensors directly under the device screen, instead take them to a special area, as is done in the iPhone and Google Nexus.
The first samples of the new fingerprint scanners are already installed in the smartphone LeTV Le Max Pro China. But given the fact that Qualcomm is working closely enough with other famous companies such as Apple, Samsung and Motorola, we can expect that the new scanners will appear in the devices these companies in the near future.
